Overview

A Midland industrial workshop was operating on a switchboard that pre-dated current AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules — overloaded circuits, mis-labelled breakers and no RCD protection on critical equipment. Insurance had flagged it as a renewal risk. We carried out a full replacement with a new modern enclosure, fresh main switch and a sub-board layout that matched how the business actually used power.

Every circuit was traced, tested, re-labelled and protected with appropriate RCD/RCBO devices. Critical production circuits got dedicated protection so a fault in the office can't drop the workshop floor. The upgrade was staged in two weekend shifts so the workshop never lost a trading day.

Handover included a labelled schedule, full test results and a certificate of electrical compliance — everything the insurer asked for, plus a switchboard the next sparky will thank us for.

Do we need a full switchboard replacement?+

Not always — sometimes a switchboard can be upgraded in-place. We do a no-obligation inspection first and only recommend a full replacement when it's the right call commercially and electrically.

Can the upgrade happen without shutting down?+

For most commercial sites, yes — we stage the works over after-hours or weekend shifts so production isn't disrupted. We always supply a written cutover plan first.

What documentation do we get?+

A labelled circuit schedule, full test results, certificate of electrical compliance, and as-built drawings of the new switchboard layout.
